Well, it has been a while....
Have been really busy making lots of hats for our millinery module at CCAD in Hartlepool, and also been back to the war years, constructing a lady's Utility jacket for the tailoring module. I am now officially addicted to making hats!
Thought you might like to see what I've been doing....

have a look at this link to our college- it tells all about our Hacker and Dodge costumes! The local newspaper came to take our photos and give us some publicity.

Hi there
A quick update on the summer's activity! Have been so busy I haven't had time to write what I've been up to.....
Had some brilliant work experience over the summer; was lucky enough to make some costumes for CBBC Hacker and Dodge. I made two different country gent costumes, check shirts, tweed waistcoats with sherlock hat and flat cap. Photos to follow hopefully, as the CBBC chaps took them away before I had chance to photo the finished article!

Luca Costiglioli visited the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle in July to recreate Josephine Bowes' ballgown depicted in the painting held in the museum. Luca is famous historical costumier from Italy who is very passionate about his craft. I was lucky enough to assist with the gown for a couple of days. Quite an experience! Learned lots too.
I also spent a week of work experience in London at Cosprop, which was absolutely fantastic. John Bright has a wonderful collection of genuine period costumes -a lifetime's work. Thank to Susan and the girls for making me so welcome and giving me plenty to do! I made a man's corset, several bum pads amongst other things.

Fiona and Sharon at Brookes Tailors in Barnard Castle, gave me homework, ie practising handmade button holes. Grateful thanks to them too.
Also became a volunteer for Beamish Museum, had a great day there through the summer too, this is ongoing and will go back as soon as I can!.
I had a lovely holiday in Austria in June and was really impressed by the wall paintings on a lot of the houses. The travelling community painted them on as payment for bed and breakfast apparently. It is called luft malleri ( not sure of correct spelling!) meaning air painting.
Couldnt resist taking lots of pictures and wanted to share this one.

Back to the 1950s
Our latest project has brought me back to my childhood, although was born in the 60s I have fond memories of Sleeping Beauty, and this was my costume!

Breathing space
Have just handed in two subjects at deadline - very satisfying I must say. I'm pleased with how things went too so that's a great confindence booster for me. Now to tackle the contextual studies essay! Have done a fair bit of research but have a way to go yet.
Had a productive day today though. Recieved an email back from Beamish after I'd contacted them about spending some time with them through the summer. Really nice lady called Sarah ( I know this because I rang to talk!) gave me some pointers and I'm ringing her in April. Also rang Cosprop in London - again lovely lady, very amenable to me spending a week with her in the summer so I'm quite excited about that!
Our little group at college completed our presentation without too much stress - I think it went ok! Good practice for us all but slightly nerve racking.
Now I'm looking forward to our next project which will be a live one. I'm genuinely excited at the prospect!
